13s Robyn West at Kingsbury Artists

Robyn West is an Australian-born artist who has lived in the UK for forty years. While past roles involved promoting the work of British artists, her own creative journey began only in recent years. She graduated Fine Art BA with first class honours at Norwich University of the Arts in 2024.
Predominantly a sculptor, her work is an abstraction of built structures, referencing the materiality and processes of construction, and incorporating elements of colour that harness the ephemeral qualities of natural light. The artist’s inspirations derive from the illuminations of stained glass, modernist architecture and design, particularly Brutalism, and heavy industrial zones.
Robyn’s work often plays with the dynamics of opposites, where contrasts emerge between the physical and intangible, the fragile and unyielding, the static and fleeting. With attention to the particularity of composition and placement, works often provide unexpected elements for audiences willing to explore beyond their outer appearance. She is interested in the inherent qualities of materials and their possibilities, and adopts a ‘thinking through making’ approach to her practice, often creating maquettes as a precursor to larger works.
Robyn will be exhibiting examples of her work in Kingsbury Barn in St Albans during the first weekend of Open Studios.
