G.Davies_Storm Beach. The results of finding pebbles on a beach after a huge storm.

Description for Website

I have always had an interest in visual arts, and have always found making things a way to relax. I followed a City and Guilds course in Design and Embroidery while still teaching full-time, but it is only in retirement that I have been able to develop my interest in abstract stitched art.

I am a textile artist with an interest in using a range of methods and materials, including papers and fabrics. My work is generally inspired by things that I find, like pebbles on a beach or old glass bottles. I often use the item itself to print with or make mono-print blocks to create initial ideas. I like to layer materials, so that the original image becomes altered, helping to create more abstract interpretations. My colour palettes are often restricted – I impose ‘rules’ on myself to keep the colours in check! I use both hand stitch and machine stitch in my final pieces.
