53a Alistair Wye at The Hoddesdon Collective

Alistair is a self-taught artist whose work is driven by intuition, curiosity, and a refusal to colour inside the lines. Raised in Hoddesdon and now based in Broxbourne — after time in Nottingham and Hong Kong — he comes from a family of creatives, with both his father and grandfather sharing a love of art.
As a child, Alistair spent hours drawing, later exploring pastels, watercolours, and acrylics before picking up oils at age 8 to paint a portrait of his uncle’s dog, Patch. Though a passionate artist through his teens, studies and a legal career took over—until the first COVID lockdown in 2020 reignited his creative spark.
He now fits his artistic practice around work and family life, experimenting across oils, acrylics, spray paint, watercolour, ink, and more. His style spans abstract, traditional portraiture, landscapes, pop, and street art. Guided not by rules but by texture and instinct, his layered, expressive pieces invite viewers to feel first, think later, and always look twice.
Inspirations include Bacon, Sargent, Caravaggio, Da Vinci, Velázquez, Goya, Dali, Van Gogh, Banksy, Blek Le Rat, Simon Kenny, and many others.
