My textile journey started with learning patchwork and quilting. After 10 years of producing quilts for family and friends, I felt the need to widen my horizons. So, I have gradually developed my work into a mixture of hand stitching and machine stitched wall hangings.
Living in rural North Hertfordshire, I am surrounded by inspiration for my work as seen on my daily dog walks.
This first series of work were begun during lockdown.
The background of navy felt has a square of calico hand stitched onto it. Then I choose my collage pieces, from a mixture of hand painted scrim, calico, tissue paper, deli paper or teabag paper. Finally these are hand stitched to give texture.
The finished piece is mounted onto a canvas painted black, which is then inserted into a bespoke frame.
These can be hung flush onto the wall, a wire has been fixed into the back. Or stood on a shelf.
