I paint pleinair (outside) to quickly catch changing light effects and patterns in landscapes. This helps me keep my work fresh and full of movement. I have painted and drawn on and off all my life. At college I studied architecture and later practiced as an architect and a design journalist. When my kids were younger we lived in Asia where I had the opportunity to work full time as an artist and start selling my work. Now they’re older and we are settled back in the U.K. I have been able to increasingly dedicate myself to developing my artwork. I paint in an expressive style to capture changing light effects on buildings or landscapes, picking up particularly on the interesting patterns and moods that fleetingly occur.
I love running, especially with my canicross dog and many of the views I paint were scouted out whilst running the trails around St Albans. Recently I have started to explore painting portraits and human forms which, as with landscapes, I like to paint directly from life.
