Julie's artwork is created in response to primary sketches from the mountains of the French Alps. What starts from a simple mark, a trace of something powerful, a piece of paper, a ball of clay, is transformed, taking on a multi dimensional form. The work offers a fresh perspective of viewing the geology and fragility of these extreme landscapes.
Julies work is very much process led from the intense observation and drawing of shapes and forms, to the meticulous sculpting of both paper and clay and its exposure to gravity to form vessel and objects of curiosity. Each body of work draws on different clays and materials, experimental, still discovering their qualities.
Julie graduated from the University of Hertfordshire in 2015, having studied Contemporary Fine Art. Presently a fellow at the Digswell Art Trust in Letchworth, where she also teaches drawing and Ceramics.
