Biography
Yoshie Allan is a Japanese-born, UK-based visual artist, illustrator, and designer.
She has developed her unique style through self-teaching, drawing on her childhood imagination inspired by the rich natural landscapes of Fukushima, her family’s DIY creativity in painting, music, and sewing, and the vibrant culture of Tokyo.
After initially pursuing veterinary science at university, Yoshie shifted her focus to fashion design, studying at Esmod Japon in Tokyo. She later worked in the apparel industry before transitioning to fabric-based mixed media art.
Since 2006, Yoshie has collaborated on diverse projects, including published picture books and bespoke client designs. One of her recent highlights is the Hide & Seek in Dreamscape series, first exhibited in the UK and later featured as part of a major department store’s autumn campaign visuals across Japan.
Inspired by nature’s contrasts, her latest works delve into life philosophy through mixed media, inviting playfulness and connection with viewers through exhibitions and workshops.
Yoshie is also highly experienced in collaborative projects with like-minded creators, companies, and brands. For example, Sas and Yosh (sasandyosh.com), the design duo she co-founded with British artist Sarah Bellisario, has produced designs for commercial spaces, hospital murals, book illustrations, interior patterns, and more. Their work blends hand-drawn and digital techniques, sharing creativity across the UK and internationally.
Based between the UK and Japan, Yoshie continues to travel the world, seeking inspiration and meaningful encounters to enrich her work.
When not in her atelier, she enjoys immersing herself in nature with her furry friends as a dog walker, raising a toast with loved ones, or reconnecting with herself through yoga and meditation.
