Biography
Sarah works with the physical, mindful and cadenced process of making in clay.
“I first began to make with clay following a major accident (2004) and through courses with internationally renowned ceramic artist Sandy Brown at her studio in Appledore in Devon. I went on to graduate in ceramics from Central St Martins College of Art and Design and teach and make work at my studio in Elstree. Sandy’s truth of expression remains a founding influence.
There is a preoccupation in my work with the immanence of the feminine and the results, or lessons, of that experience. Each piece of work is a meditation on this emergent experience.”
Sarah has exhibited at Pangolin London, at the Red Gallery, the Brick Lane Gallery, the Nude Tin Can Gallery, the London Design Festival, with the Society of Designer Craftsmen and in a solo show in their Shoreditch Gallery. She continues to build opportunities to exhibit as a woman artist and educator and teaches from her beautiful and tranquil studio in Elstree.
One of the most significant benefits of mindful pottery is stress reduction. In our daily lives, we are bombarded with visual information, deadlines, and demands. The brain, in its attempt to juggle everything, often feels overwhelmed. Engaging in pottery offers a respite. The focus shifts from external stressors to the clay in hand. As the mind engages in the act of shaping the clay, it lets go of its anxieties, leading to a deep sense of relaxation and peace
