Biography
I take my inspiration from the feel and grain and patterns of the wood; I allow the wood to take me on a journey to produce turned items that are both beautiful to the eye, tactile to the finger and functional in the hand.
The articles I produce are unique and individual. They include bowls and platters, pots – with and without lids, and candlesticks. I also produce everyday items such as tool handles, garden dibbers and telescopic magnets. Lately, I have enjoyed making unique multi-wood pendants on leather cords. I accept commissions and turn items on request.
I choose to turn wood that has been grown in the UK, from reliable suppliers or that has been sourced very locally to where I live. This includes oak, yew, sycamore, chestnut, cherry, ash and hornbeam. I have also been very fortunate to use wood from trees from our garden in Hertfordshire and the local woods in Welwyn Garden City. I occasionally rescue wood that is no longer wanted, sometimes including some exotic wood from faraway places.
I provide half-day one-to-one beginner’s woodturning taster sessions in my workshop, which are very popular.
