Biography
Contemporary Basketmaker and Willow Artist
BA Hons Applied Arts
Gold Award winner – Chelsea Flower Show
I am inspired by nature and love working with natural materials. My work is of a ‘slow craft’ ethos. I use mixed natural materials including, cane, bark, leaves, found items, stone, bone, beeswax…. Assembling, weaving and binding, sometimes stitching around the boundaries of ancient basketry and textile skills, and sometimes making it up.
Willow workshops are available for most of the year at several community venues. I also teach short courses using a variety of grown and foraged materials to make beautiful and sustainable contemporary basketry structures. One-to-one working and small group teaching is available at my studio. Commissioned work is possible for private and corporate clients – past projects include large sculptural pieces, small sculpture, and functional work.
My work is exhibited and sold at galleries, art/craft shows and community events. Gift vouchers are available by email.
I am happy to negotiate terms for basketry demonstrations and weaving activities at events. Do contact me if you would like to discuss any of the above and you’ll be most welcome to visit the studio by appointment.
