As a ceramic artist I hand build with slabs and throw on the wheel, at times using the techniques in combination. The forms I make are one-off or made in a small series. Inspiration comes from the landscape of the coast and the Chilterns where I now live. Sculptural boats, vases and lidded boxes feature in a lot in my work. Special attention is given to developing rich surface qualities. I am fascinated with the materials of ceramics, mixing some of my own glazes. I like to use photography to develop ideas for my ceramics and I produce artist cards with some selected images. Working as a self-employed artist (Ceramics BA Hons) and part-time tutor, I exhibit and sell my ceramic work regularly, details of current events can be found on my website www.amandatomsceramics.com
