Herts Open Studios 2021, our flagship county-wide annual event takes place this year from Saturday 18th September to Sunday 10th October.
So many possibilities: Herts Open Studios again brings artists, artisans and art-lovers together for 3 weeks of inspiration, discovery and rich opportunity. Established over 30 years ago, it remains a popular and well-established part of the Hertfordshire annual art calendar.
For artists: booking opens on 1st July and closes 31st July. We're back sharing our art with the world, and we know our visitors are ready too. Who's up for the adventure and opportunity again? Visit https://www.hvaf.org.uk/artists for more information.
New for 2021: we are offering both a Virtual Open Studios option alongside our well-loved In-Person studio experience. Building on 2020 successes, our website delivers much-improved local area and topic searches as well as interactive online maps - a user experience optimised for mobile. We're taking full advantage of our website to deliver an amazing experience for artists and visitors alike.
Daily Themes: Each day will feature one of 23 Daily Themes, searchable on the website. Each day, each Theme represents a new exhibition, an opportunity to see how artists respond, whether it's an interpretation of work, perhaps a daily piece or sketchbook entry, the subject matter, a way of working. Themes are a fabulous way to engage artists and visitors alike, and each one will have it's own flipbook and video to view.
Tell me about the brochure: This year, we re-thought our well-loved Open Studios brochure and are pleased to share it online as an e-Brochure/flipbook instead of in print. Packed with all the content and information about our individual artists that we know and love, there'll be new features too, with expanded and updated layout. We're especially encouraging local trail information, making local visits even easier. We're continuing the theme-based flipbooks and videos launched in 2020, as well as the range of video-based studio tours and opportunities to meet the artists themselves.
In-Person Open Studios - what to expect: Artists open their own homes/places of work or get together with other artists to welcome visitors at specified times over the three week period. From working demonstrations to exhibitions, solo to larger group events, each venue and experience will be different. It’s a once-a year opportunity, with thousands of Open Studios visits to see artists in action and find out what they do.
