Clare Hogan Art

My work is inspired by the quiet beauty of everyday surroundings—my home, my garden, and the natural spaces I explore on local walks. After working for many years as a textile designer, I’ve returned to painting to reconnect with the slower pace of observing and responding to the world around me.

Using acrylic paint and collage, I focus on botanical subjects, still life, and woodland landscapes. These themes offer a way to reflect the calm and richness I find in both cultivated and wild places—from the structure of garden plants to the layered textures of the forest. I’m drawn to seasonal changes, shifting light, and the small details that often go unnoticed. Painting allows me to pause and appreciate these fleeting moments.

My background in textiles continues to shape my approach—particularly in how I think about pattern, shape, and composition. While textiles often involved careful planning, painting gives me the freedom to work more intuitively, letting colour and form guide the process.

At its heart, my work is about noticing. Whether it’s a tangle of branches in a woodland path or a single flower on a windowsill, I aim to create pieces that celebrate the quiet, grounding beauty of the everyday.
