Anna Perlin

For as long as I can remember I have loved drawing and painting, and although I didn’t train formally in art I decided fairly early on that I wanted to be a full time artist.

After a degree in Textile Design and Marketing I initially worked in retail whilst exploring my love of painting by joining an art society and taking part in evening art groups. I started exhibiting in local exhibitions and won several best in show awards before realising I didn’t want to regret not taking my passion for art further.

Growing up in the heart of the Oxfordshire countryside I wanted to paint my love of nature, and the British landscape as well as my much loved garden still inspires much of my work alongside explorations of figures and urban landscapes.

Pattern is a big part of all my work, as is colour, and I use both to find contrasts and cohesion in a painting. After initially exploring different media and print making techniques I discovered a way of working with fabric collage and mixed media which gives my work a mix of texture and depth. I like to use patterns from the fabric collage alongside mixed media which helps to deconstruct the detail whilst keeping an element of form and structure.

In 2016 I was selected to appear on the second series of Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year and I made it through to the semi-finals after winning my heat at Wray Castle in the Lake District.

In 2017 I won Artists and Illustrators Artist of the Year.

My work is shown in solo and mixed exhibitions in galleries throughout the UK.

I have a home studio in Harpenden where I live with my husband, two children and cats.
