Richard is an historian by training. He has long been interested in art. Only in recent years has he found time to develop fully his artistic interests and talents. His boyhood upbringing and lifelong love of the sea are reflected in his artistic expression. His paintings are mainly seascapes and landscapes in a semi-abstract, impressionistic genre. The relationship between art and poetry, especially of the sea, is reflected in his painting. He paints mainly with a palette knife in oil and acrylic in his studio and en plein air. Much of his painting takes place on the Hampshire and Dorset coast where he has exhibited recently at a gallery in Christchurch and at numerous art festivals in Hertfordshire.
