This month we’re about Open Studios - I can’t quite believe we’re already in September. It’s been an eventful year so far and amongst all the HVAF preparations our Area Coordinators are also busy getting their own Open Studios ready. I’d like to thanks them all here, and if you can, please take a moment to appreciate all their hard work on everyone’s behalf. Even of you are not part of Open Studios this year, please take a look at our lovely new-design brochure. You can pick up a copy from an Open Studio near you – pop in for a chat, we think you’ll like what you see. Look out for a great feature in Hertfordshire Life and other local publications too.
Herts Affordable Art Fair
Before we turn to Open Studios I’d like to just take a moment to report the success of our art fair in Hitchin at the end of July. Oversubscribed within 12 hours from the first request for expressions of interest at the beginning of the year, the fair was a buzz from PV to close. Our artists made over £7,100 in total sales (more than £1000 in the last hour alone). With great visitors’ book comments, we’re still getting ‘thank-you’s and people commenting on the great atmosphere, quality/range of work (with requests to be told about ‘the next one’)
Congratulations to our sponsors’ choice winners: Mitzie Green, Qing Qi, Laura Dunmow and David Harris.
I can’t say enough thanks to Sally Taylor, Sandy Andrews, Sharon Korek, Laura Dunmow and other volunteers who willingly gave so much time to make it happen. Their meticulous planning, preparation, follow-up and support from friends/ families made it all work. After packing on the Sunday night, about 8 of us returned Monday a.m. to load the van/return screens to their owners. Checking, re-checking & finally counter-checking the accounts took a week.
We’ve already started to consider ‘the next one’ and will put all feedback into developing that event.
