Herts Open Studios 2013
Herts Open Studios is a regular autumn event on the Hertfordshire social calendar. This year a wide range of artists and makers are on view in 114 venues. The event features: painters - in oil, acrylic and water-colour; multimedia artists; ceramicists, jewellers and glass artists; photographers – both digital and film; sculptors and engravers; print, textile and fashion creators.
Now in its 23rd year, 25,000 printed brochures listing the venues have been distributed in libraries, galleries and other outlets across the county. Yet, surprisingly there are still people who have never heard of Open Studios. It’s a time when Hertfordshire’s established, emerging and amateur artists open their doors to the public. Artists show a wide range of work – and visitors can buy if they want to. It’s an opportunity to talk to artists in their own creative settings, own a piece of original artwork, or buy that special gift such as jewellery or collectibles. Many artists and makers welcome commissions.
Our Chairman, Mel Hilbrown says: “This annual project attracts between 10,000 to 14,000 studio visits. We would like even more people to have the pleasure of talking to our artists as well as seeing their work this year. It’s a once a year opportunity - and not every artist shows every year.”
So spread the word. Make your visits sociable by travelling with a friend or encourage interested family members to tag along. Last year some sports clubs – cyclists and walkers - organised circuits via some of their local studios. Some venues serve refreshments – well deserved if you’ve been running or cycling a few miles! HVA artists would love to see you.
