GLASS GROUP - New Co-ordinator

Introducing  – Caroline Davis of Aspen Stained Glass.
"I am based in Croxley Green, am mostly self-taught and have been in business for 9 months now so this is all quite new for me.
One of the biggest drawbacks for me of working on my own from home is the lack of contact with other like-minded people - someone to share ideas, inspiration and knowledge with. With this in mind, I found the Herts Visual Arts, saw they had a Glass Group and joined.  It wasn’t until that point that I realised they no longer had anyone to co-ordinate the group. So, what did I do? I jumped in with both feet and offered to take it on.
I have had some very welcoming responses so far and hope to be offering some ‘activities’ in the very near future. So watch this space.
All suggestions will be gratefully received – it’s not my group, it’s our group.  I look forwards to meeting you all soon"

The next meeting of the Southern Painters will be at the home of Tessa Barnes in St. Albans on Wednesday September 26th at 2.30pm.  Bring paintings to celebrate any sort of harvest.

Tessa's Open Studio will be underway, so an ideal opportunity for the group to view.

AUGUST MEETING - The HVA Sculptors meeting this month was hosted by Dawn Dominic and her partner Steve, at her studio and workshop in Little Wymondley near Hitchin, Herts. Dawn provided facilities to try out 'sculpting Celcon blocks' to those who had never used them before.

Tony Bedford and Maria Wilkings eagerly took up the challenge of playing with this new material.  Brian Parkes was fascinated by Dawn's 3D glass creations and her use of recycled materials in sculpture.  Others enjoyed a pleasant afternoon in the sun, good company and nibbles....

Tony (pictured above) emailed afterwards, 'A big thank you for all your efforts  and kind hospitality yesterday.  I had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of carving the block.  I can't wait to get my hands on the next block!'
