ARTISTS living or working in Hertfordshire are invited to apply for the Open Exhibition 2009 at Margaret Harvey Gallery.

Organised in collaboration with St Albans District Council, Welwyn Hatfield Council and Hertfordshire County Council, the annual open submission exhibition will run from 9 - 23 December.

Each artist may submit three works. Entries will be accepted in the form of painting, sculpture, drawing, prints, photographs and applied art. There will be a fee of £7.00 per work submitted. The best overall entry will be awarded a first prize of an exhibition in the Margaret Harvey Gallery in the summer of 2010.

Application forms will be available from 15 October 2009. Submission dates are 27 and 28 November 2009. Exhibition dates are 9 - 23 December 2009. Gallery opening hours: Wednesday – Saturday 11.00am - 5.00pm.

WHAT is contemporary art practice?

Find out at a series of art lectures running from October to December and January 2010 to March at the University of Hertfordshire.

What are the issues, debates and theoretical elements involved? ‘Art Talk’ is a lecture series designed to explore this fast changing subject area of contemporary visual art debate.

The series will feature invited artists, curators and critics of national and international standing and will incorporate a Q&A session.

ELEMENTS is an exciting new open exhibition to he held at The Forum in Norwich for three weeks in January and February 2010.

Organisers are looking for works created since January 2007 by artists who engage particularly with habitat, the environment and both the natural and manmade worlds in their artistic process. The theme of the exhibition will be 'Man and the Environment' and artists are invited to submit work which addresses ideas and concerns based around this theme.

The exhibition will be curated by The Forum Trust in partnership with Bayer CropScience. Works will be selected by a panel and the Bayer prize of £1000 will be awarded to one artist.

The Forum Trust is the organisation responsible for managing The Forum in Norwich – the Millennium building for the East of England and a cultural centre which receives 50,000 visitors per week. The Trust has a growing reputation for organising high profile public arts events for Norwich, including Norfolk Contemporary Art 08 and Photo-ID (both in partnership with Norfolk Contemporary Art Society).

THE Elephant Trust offers grants to artists and institutions (priority is given to small organisations and galleries) for new, innovative visual arts projects based in the UK.

The Trust's aim is to make it possible for artists and those presenting their work to undertake and complete projects when confronted by lack of funds.

The Trust supports projects that develop and improve the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the fine arts. The Trust normally awards grants of up to £2,000, but larger grants may be considered. The next deadline for the submission of applications is 21 September 2009.
