'REVELATION THREADS', 19 Apr - 5 June 2016

Created by textile artist, Jacqui Parkinson, 'Revelation Threads' is an exhibition of textile art created in response to the last book of the Bible, with the aim of retelling an extraordinary story.  Raising issues of life and faith, good and evil, death and judgement, resurrection and a new Heaven and a new Earth, it has been designed as a set of fourteen panels, which have taken three years to complete.

Each panel starts as a plain old cotton bed sheet which is then wadded and painted. Over that are stitched several layers of silk which are cut into, to reveal glimpses of the lower layers. The glorious top designs are then appliqued on to create the final image in its entirety. As well as silks, the panels sometimes use delicate feathers, often with metallic finishes and occasional patches of real gold leaf. The work generates dramatic results, especially when caught in the light, will make it a wonderful temporary addition to the fabric of St Albans Cathedral.

FINDERS KEEPERS - Tales in Textiles !

After completing her Contemporary Textile degree In Shetland last year, HVA member Connie Flynn was artist in residence at Sumburgh Lighthouse, Shetland for the month of June. During the residency she researched the social history aspect of the keepers and their families who stayed, worked and lived at the lighthouse. Connie recorded her findings of quotes and stories in her sketch book, this progressed into constructing textile wall hangings, each one decorated with hand stitched techniques to represent these tales. Now the work is complete, Finders Keepers - Tales in Textiles! will be exhibited in Shetland Museum from 2nd - 28th April 2016.

Connie will be talking about her experiences of studying and living in Shetland at 3pm on Sun 15th May 2016 at Braintree Museum, Essex as part of the Warner Textile Archive's annual Textile Fair. Vibrant paintings by Isabelle Beaubien at The Gallery at Parndon Mill, Off Elizabeth Way, HARLOW CM20 2HP.  www.parndonmill.co.uk

This exhibition is a journey with colour which gives surprising results.

Some of Isabelle Beaubien's works have very strong and powerful colours while others are more neutral. In both cases, she creates striking paintings where background and foreground can appear to shift and this intrigues the eye.
