HVA AGM & Speaker
HVA Members please put Wednesday 19 June 2013 in your diaries for HVA’s next event, which will be held at:
The Red Lion, 88 Great North Road, Hatfield, Herts, AL9 5EU
Yes, it’s that time of the year again - when we hold our AGM. The business part of the evening will only take 30 minutes - and should be interesting too. It's about how the organisation is developing and it's the time for you to have your say. After that it's about socialising, networking - and we also have a thought-provoking speaker lined up. So come along and enjoy…
What’s in store
The itinerary looks like this:
7.30pm Drinks, nibbles and chat
8.00pm Speaker Paschal McGuire
“Emerging technologies and how they can be used to expand the individual’s art goals”
Drinks and nibbles
The Red Lion is a comfortable venue, where you can come along early for a meal or stay on afterwards for a drink at the bar or a meal with friends.
The drinks and nibbles on the itinerary (between the business and speaker part of the evening) are courtesy of HVA. This is an opportunity for you to get to know more of the members, share ideas, talk about what you are working on, and discuss the Harpenden Exhibition and Open studios. Or maybe you’d like to share details of exhibitions you’ve been to. (I’ve just seen Chuck Close at The White Cube in Bermondsey Street – fantastic!)
The talk by Paschal McGuire promises to be an eye-opener: “Emerging technologies for the artist and how they can be used to expand the individuals art goals”
He writes: "The technology available to the average creative is unprecedented in human history. The average computer is now capable of being an architectural tool, a movie studio, a recording facility, a photographic light room and even a pottery lab - all at the same time. The trouble is knowing where to start and what tools are worth buying and more importantly are there free or cheap ones available to use instead. Which one is better- a PC or Mac? Where do I learn how to use these tools? Can I learn by myself? Most important of all, do I really need these tools to realise my creative goals?"
Paschal McGuire explains where to get free software, and the best links for tutorials. He gives a rundown on what is coming in the next few years and how you can start using incredible tools to design sculpture and even get them printed out!
