Workshops & Classes

'Figure' Su James Dean

Textiles Outdoors ?

We are used to sculpture outdoors and even protected photographs; most memorable was ‘Earth from the Air’ outside the Natural History Museum in all weathers.

To take Textiles outdoors requires a little more consideration as to how materials might degrade when exposed to the elements.

Do we choose materials like plastic which may be resistant to weathering, or do we choose fabrics that will fray, fade or even dissolve?

Artist on file: JONATHAN HIGGINS - sculptor and model maker

Jon Higgins - Quasar

38 year old Jonathan Higgins’ work is as diverse as it is fascinating, encompassing elegant bronze sculptures to models of comic book heroes.

Hailing from Stalybridge near Manchester, he studied fine art at Tameside College, going on to the University of Sunderland to study Visual Information Design.

It was at Sunderland that Jon met Sean Robinson, a lecturer there, who previously had a successful career in model making for the advertising industry. This inspired Jon to specialise in sculpting and model making.

Artist on file: LINDA PEACOCK - painter

'Rainbow Lake' Linda Peacock

Memories of her childhood in New Zealand permeate the paintings of Linda Peacock

Linda Peacock is a self-taught artist. She was born and raised in New Zealand by her English mother and New Zealander father, himself a landscape artist. Linda remembers her father painting images of mountains and beaches in New Zealand. She was fascinated by his creations which acted as a catalyst for her painting.

How can different organisations pool resources to give more benefits to their members? It was a question raised at the mini charrette, hosted by UHArts on Friday 25 February 2011 at the Fielder Centre, Hatfield Businss Park. Arts funding cuts are going to affect what arts communities can do whether in higher education, or in a museum, a library, a theatre, an orchestra, a dance group or a visual arts group like HVA. So it could make sense to gain more by working with each other.

'Beyond Pattern' Exhibition
