My Art is Real Art

HVAF's next quarterly meeting presents an interactive and thought-provoking talk by artist Alex Buhagiar.

My Art is Real Art will pose a number of questions, including how we place a value on art.

The event at the University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, on July 21st will attempt to draw the audience into an interactive discussion.

Alex says: “The title for the evening My Art is Real Art is said tongue in cheek. However, I want to draw attention to the elitism in visual art as well as the very real differences in media and methods used. Deep down, do we judge our own work and that of others on the basis of showing or not showing, selling or not selling? What other values do we employ? I would also like to consider the ways in which ‘jobbing’ artists maintain a sense of value.”

Alex’s own work centres on performance, participation and collaboration. She will illustrate her presentation with pictures and short films to show how her work has developed.

The meeting in Room A161, Lindop Building, University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, starts at 7.30pm. All are welcome; members: free, non-members: £3 on the door.
