THE BARNET GUILD
Chaos theory is the science of surprises. It is about expecting the unexpected. See this exciting exhibition of cast glass sculpture 30 June - 7 August 2016 at The Gallery at Parndon Mill.
Heike Brachlow’s cast glass sculpture reflects her attraction to movement and transformation, both in colour and form. The pieces are often precariously balanced and can be set in various positions. Many change colour when exposed to different light sources.

'Hidden Agenda', 18 June-14 Aug 2016
This Crafts Council Collection exhibition, curated in partnership with Berwick Visual Arts and artist Doug Jones at The Broadway Gallery (Letchworth) features works by makers and designers who use craft as a platform for social comment and provocation, and includes an early work by Grayson Perry, Mad Kid's Bedroom Wall , which is glazed and embossed in multiple and conflicting layers.
Depicting a teenager's bedroom, the layers of imagery evoke a sense of menace, telling the story of a country adolescent boy in isolation.
Hidden Agenda includes objects from the Crafts Council Collection by makers Jane Atfield, Stephen Dixon, Michael Marriott, Angela O'Kelly, Grayson Perry, Paul Scott, Lynn Setterington, Audrey Walker, Michele Walker and Lois Walpole alongside new work by Doug Jones.

FABRIC OF LIFE
'TEXT' TAKING TEXTILES FURTHER
The next exhibition at The Upstairs Gallery in Berkhamsted is by a group of embroiderers and textile artists who meet at Missenden Abbey in Great Missenden three times a year.
Members of the group are encouraged to explore ideas and methods of design that may be outside their usual range, and to critique their own and others within this supportive environment where peer support is part of the workshop time. Drawing is a key activity and is practised in its widest forms giving learners a very individual and original starting point. There is an expectation that learners will also take a keen interest in contextural issues and the wider sphere of textile practice.
This exhibition shows work made in response to a theme of TEXT, where participants have applied this to their own personal subjects and textile specialisms. We have explored making our own tools for drawing and writing text, graffiti, using text as pattern and texture with and without backgrounds.
