Memorial Service for Tessa Barnes
Tessa Barnes sadly passed away after a long illness on the evening of Tuesday 24th June 2014, peacefully and at home. Tessa was a stalwart, long-term and active member of HVA and her quiet humour and twinkling-eyed enthusiasm will be greatly missed.
The story of her art and her involvement in HVA was told in a feature in the February 2012 issue of the HVA newsletter.
Fellow exhibitor and friend of Tessa's, June Faulkner, says: "Tessa was an inspiration to to me when I met her. She introduced me to silk painting, and was always ready to teach and explain new and different techniques, which she would have extensively researched. Having originally dedicated much of her life to helping others, she continued to do the same with her teaching, while at the same time achieving high standards in her own creative work. She always worked in a very efficient and organised way, but was charmingly modest and unassuming in her manner. She will be much missed by all who knew her, particularly members of HVA for whom she kindly hosted regular meetings at her home over many years - she always made us most welcome”.
There is a Memorial Service for Tessa, which Roger (Tessa's husband) describes as, "cheerful, not sombre, at her command". It is at 2.30pm on Thursday 31 July at St Saviours Church, Sandpit Lane, St Albans AL1 4DF. It is followed by light refreshments hosted by her husband Roger and family at home. The family extend an invitation to HVA members who knew Tessa.
