FOLK ART PAPERCUTS by Suzy Taylor
3 July - 31 August (Mon-Fri 10am - 4pm) at ARTISTSMEET, Watersmeet, High Street, Rickmansworth WD3 1EH
Suzy Taylor is a self-taught paper cutting artist, working from her home in Hertfordshire. Suzy took up the art of paper cutting in 2008 and has since created many unique and intricate art works all cut from a single piece of paper using just a cutting mat and a craft knife.
Suzy is strongly influenced by American and European folk art and her work often reflects themes of natural and rural life.

FULL CIRCLE Cre8
Full Circle is in its third year of making and exhibiting creative textiles; however, its membership of enthusiastic and experienced practitioners has a much longer history.
The majority met at classes in art and textiles where eventually textile work became the main focus. A very well-attended Herts Open Studios confirmed that there was a new group in the making.
The final stage in that making was a series of master classes in which advanced skills in design and practice culminated in 'Eclectic', an enthusiastically received exhibition in March 2010 at the Courtyard Arts Centre, Hertford.
A further show in November at the Dutch Nurseries, Brookmans Park, exhibited a different sort of challenge when members interpreted the same theme – Inspired by… - with widely differing outcomes. Again the response was positive.
The Old Seed Warehouse on Mill Bridge in Hertford was the venue in November last year when they showed Retrospective+, a collection of favourite pieces, old and new, by each maker. Augmented by a successful seasonal sales table and home-made refreshments it received positive comments from the many who visited.
Most of the members belong to other groups and have exhibited widely, both locally and in larger venues such as the NEC Birmingham; The Knitting and Stitching shows at Alexandra Palace, Harrogate and London; and the Mall Galleries in London.
In preparation for Cre8, their next and most ambitious project to date, the group has been exploring the idea of wearable art. As ever the results show just how varied the outcomes from a single source can be. These pieces plus many others will be on display from the...

HOT STREETS A SHIMMER
A solo exhibition of mixed media collages and screenprints by Christine Calow at Frameworks Gallery, 171 High Street, Cottenham, Cambridge CB24 8RX.
The exhibition runs from 21st June and has been extended to 8th August 2012.
St Albans Art Society Summer Exhibition 2012:
Friday 27th July - Saturday 4th August
A community grant awarded to the St Albans Art Society by the District Council has enabled the St. Albans Art Society to hold their annual Summer Art Exhibition in the Old Town Hall, Market Place, St. Albans, AL3 3DJ, for a second year. After the success of last year’s exhibition in the same venue they are presenting another vibrant and varied selection of paintings, sculpture, glassware and greeting cards. An additional feature this year will be a short City Art Trail free to all who come to the exhibition. Visitors to the Exhibition will be able to pick up a leaflet, follow the trail and discover pieces of St Albans they hadn’t noticed before.

HVA MEMBERS ARE INVITED TO A PREVIEW EXHIBITION FOR THE LAUNCH OF A NEW ON-LINE GALLERY

An exhibition of recent paintings by Linda Di Mizio and Brian Robinson at The Howland Room, North Court, Woburn Abbey, Bedfordshire MK17 9WA 11am - 4.30pm
Brian trained at art school and followed a successful career as a graphic designer before becoming a full time painter.
For the last 15 years he has worked almost exclusively in watercolour, creating strong, colourful paintings, usually inspired by the play of sun and shadow on land and water.
His paintings have been exhibited at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and The Royal Society of Marine Artists' exhibitions at the Mall Galleries.
