February 2018

Our members range from those who have been with us since the very beginning almost 30 years ago, to the many who have joined for the very first time this year. However long you have been part of our community, welcome to this February news round-up and a year of opportunities and arty fellowship.

It’s already been a busy start and the next few months will be full of many more things to do and watch out for - plenty of adventures on the calendar. As we start membership renewals and registration for our various 2018 events, I encourage you to join in, make new friends and connections, and above all have some fun with your creative life.

HVA Big Art Fair coming soon

After the very successful Affordable Art Fair last July, Herts Visual Arts are organising a Big Art Fair this July 13th -15th in the beautiful, newly refurbished Hitchin Town Hall.
This venue is bigger than the one we used last year and we are planning on hiring professional screens and creating a truly up market event.

As before artists can display their work for sale with no commission charges but there will be an entry fee similar to last year.
Submission forms will be available shortly so please put the date in your diary.

Membership renewals

Membership Renewals - it's that time of year!

Firstly, huge thanks to Sharon Korek - our volunteer Membership Secretary.
Any queries, you can email Sharon on membership@hvaf.org.uk
It’s time to sign up again to be part of our busy events and opportunities calendar for 2018 – exclusively available to Herts Visual Arts Members.

With newsletters, a highly visible personal on- line gallery page, information on opportunities and our own member-only events there’s plenty in store for our 2018 members. Our social media networks also offer more even ways to be part of our art community, to connect with each other and our audience.

Fees remain excellent value, with no increase from previous years so do pop straight over to our web site and renew your membership.

Remember that there’s an early-bird discount if you renew before 31st March 2018.

Herts Visual Arts Members Conference 2018

At a new venue in Hatfield, some 50 members took part this year – it was again a great opportunity for everyone to get to know each other and think about what they want from the year ahead.  We know several member-led informal meetups and other collaborations are in the pipe-line as a result.  Participants also shared a sneak preview of our new image, branding graphics and Herts Visual Arts continuing growth into a place of opportunity for our members, where we can connect with other artists and our audiences.

‘More creativity, more fun, more buzz, more laughter in our lives’

Time and time again our volunteers confirm they gain so much from being part of one of our event or organising teams. Whether it’s new friendships, the experience and elation of staging successful events, learning new skills, or putting existing skills to use.  If you’d like to grow and help Herts Visual Arts grow too, every contribution, large or small, is very welcome, so please do get in touch.

Herts Visual Arts Big Art Showcase coming soon

Our next big event is open to all HVAF members who have renewed or taken out 2018 membership.  This is a fantastic free opportunity for around 50 members to showcase work in a public space – the New Maynard Gallery in Welwyn Garden City.  Dates for this year are: Handing-in day 16th April, Private View 19th April, take-down 3rd June.

Look out for the call for artists, with full details and booking information arriving in your inboxes soon.  Please log into your Herts Visual Arts account and renew now to make sure you can take part.

Last year around 50 members took part. The Gallery Trustees were delighted by the range and quality on show - a wonderful wide selection of 2D and 3D work that resulted in sales too.
