A reminder of the closing date for entries for the OPEN ART EXHIBITION AT THE LUTON HOO WALLED GARDEN being held 17 - 20 MARCH 2011

A visit to Tate Britain is being planned by ST. ALBANS ART SOCIETY on Tuesday 22nd February 2011 (entry timed for 11.30am).
This exhibition traces the origin and history of watercolour from medieval illuminated manuscripts through the centuries to our modern era.  You will see scenes painted by many intrepid travellers visiting sometimes newly discovered lands, recording events, peoples, flora and fauna, using their highly portable watercolours.

The work of acknowledged past masters such as William Blake, JMW Turner and Thomas Girton alongside contemporary artists still using it as a medium of choice will be displayed indicating the huge variety of styles and techniques that it is possible to develop.
NOTE: Tate Britain is easily accessible and has a ramped entrance if needed. There are also lifts and it is possible to borrow light fold-up stools.  Return journey at 3.30 pm from pick up point.

The 2011 Stortford Music Festival is being held at St. Mary's School, Bishop's Stortford on Saturday 30th April and Sunday 1st May.  The organisers have a marquee with a stage for performing arts such as dancing, singing, drama etc but this year would like to introduce some visual arts.

They are inviting artists, jewellery makers, potters and other craftspeople to set up a stall in the marquee for the purpose of selling their work and demonstrating their craft.  If there is the possibility of members of the public having a go, a charge could be made to cover the cost of materials. The pitches will cost £30 for the 2 days of the Festival.

Opening at the end of March in the heart of Ware, Choyce Gallery will offer the town’s art devotees a new location to enjoy and purchase the works of famous and soon-to-be famous artists and designers.

It will provide the ideal exhibition venue for painters, sculptors, jewellery makers and potters looking to offer their work to a local audience.

The facilities will offer wall space for paintings, ample footage for floor-standing artefacts, and glass display cabinets to house fragile exhibits..
Separate from the main exhibition area will be a vintage jewellery room offering a dazzling display of studio glass and semi-precious necklaces, bracelets, rings and brooches. This will be a permanent feature of the Gallery and will complement the exhibition area that will be available for hire on a variety of terms.

This lecture series is designed to explore how contemporary art interacts with the social, political and philosophical dimensions of the contemporary world and where it intersects with other disciplines and discourses. The series will feature invited artists, curators, critics and other thinkers of national and international standing and will incorporate a Q&A session.   
Critical Dialogue starts on Tuesday 8 February until Tuesday 5 April from 5.15pm until 7.00pm.
Highlights include:
‘Whose Public Art? How can commissioning public art lead to inspiring briefs’ by Fabienne Nicholas, Head of Consultancy for the Contemporary Art Society.
