Opportunities

A MIX of exhibition and funding opportunities this issue. First is the opportunity to show work at the 14th century restored Kingsbury Barn in St Michael's Village, St Albans in June.

The Art, Sculpture & Craft Exhibition will form part of the St Albans Festival where HVAF members will be able to sell paintings, ceramics, calligraphy, glass, jewellery, pottery, sculpture and textiles. There will also be demonstrations throughout the week.

The Events Committee are currently finalising details, and application forms will be circulated by email at the beginning of March. Deadline for submission is 1st May.

THE chance to exhibit 2D artworks for free at Cedars Park Café Gallery is now available to HVAF artists.

The café is set in beautiful parkland and is open Tuesdays to Sundays from the beginning of March until the end of October, usually between 10am and 4pm.

Guidelines for exhibiting artwork are as follows.

Artwork is subject to the Art Development Officers approval. Artwork is displayed at the owners risk, so ideally should be insured by them. The artist or an artist representative is responsible for the logistics of their own artwork. Artists or an artist representative is/are to hang and dismantle their own artwork, at their own risk, in agreement with the Art Development Officer.

The title of each piece of work, the artist’s contacts details and any pricing must be displayed alongside the artwork. Artwork may be sold only by the artist directly and not via the Council or the Cedars Park Café Gallery staff. Any artwork sold must be administered by the artist only, notifying the Art Development Officer appropriately. Any artworks sold must be replaced immediately by a similar or suitable piece of artwork, agreed with the Art Development Officer. The replacement timing must be agreed with the Art Development Officer.

It is anticipated that artwork could be displayed for one or two months at a time, as per negotiation with the Art Development Officer.

NEW studio space at Eastcote has opened offering workshop and studio facilities to HVAF artists on a daily basis.

Available throughout most of the year, Rainbow Studio is secure enough to leave work in progress. Tools, a lathe and facilities for installing a kiln are also available.

Rainbow Studio is also looking for tutors to run courses or, if you prefer, to take the space to run your own class for up to 12 students.

TAKE part in the First Open Art Exhibition at the Luton Hoo Walled Garden to help promote this wonderful setting as an inspirational arts centre and creative haven.

Open to artists from any creative discipline, all work submitted must be garden inspired and can interpret any aspect of garden life including plants, wildlife, buildings or tools. Painting, photography, textiles, 2D and 3D work accepted. The exhibition will run from May 21 to 23 2010.

The Luton Hoo Walled Garden project was set up in 2001 to restore the garden back to a place of beauty to be enjoyed by all. It is an ideal subject for visually creative people who may wish to record its many stages of transformation. It is hoped that this evolving setting will become a regular location to continually inspire and encourage artists, photographers and more. ARTISTS' groups and networks can now apply for awards of up to £500 through the Go & See bursaries scheme. The scheme aims to promote the aspirations of artists and the development of practice through peer dialogue and exchange. The next deadline for applications is 1st March 2010.

THE Skinners' Company Lady Neville Charity invites applications from registered charities and not-for-profit organisations working in the areas of disability, local heritage, local community and performing and visual arts.

The Foundation offers grants of up to £1,000 to support activities which provide opportunities to people of any age with physical or mental disabilities; projects which help local groups to conserve and restore their landmark, landscape, traditions and culture; projects which are involved in improving the facilities or quality of life for people in a deprived neighbourhood; groups involved in undertaking a particular activity in any field of performing and visual arts.

This year's deadlines for applications are mid-March and mid-September.

OLD Possum's Practical Trust aims to increase the knowledge and appreciation of any matters of historic, artistic, architectural, aesthetic, literary, musical or theatrical interest, by supporting organisations with grants of between £500 and £5,000.

Priority will be given to projects that involve children or young people, disabled or disadvantaged people, communities, and which enhance the lives of others, rather than the well-being of the applicants themselves.

COLLAGRAPH artist Kim Major-George is setting up the BBH Print Society to bring together printmakers from Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

The BBH Print Society aims to offer access to print exhibitions and arts events set up under the BHH Print Society. It will also include a website for links and exposure, networking and contacts.
