Hazel Godfrey & Cathy Smale @ ROTW 2010

Rhythms of the World (ROTW) is inviting applications from practicing artists to each create ’an artwork’ on site during the festival weekend.

Visitors to the festival will be able to observe the development of a ‘work in progress’ and each artist at work.

ROTW takes place in Priory Park Hitchin a large contained park behind Hitchin Priory Hotel and Conference Centre.

The artist will be allocated a gazebo in the park in which to work but they will need to take the weather into consideration when selecting materials.

If you are interested in taking part please submit a proposal outlining the following:

  •  Title (this will be used in the festival literature)
  •  Outline the intended idea with a description of the finished outcome
  •  Brief outline of the working process
  •  Approx finished size of Artwork
  •  Estimated cost of materials

The deadline for proposal submissions is:Tuesday May 10th

Art at 88

A brand new breed of gallery is coming to Berkhamsted in spring 2011, Art at 88 will be all things 'art'.  From paintings, prints, drawings, and sculpture, to ceramics, jewellery, glass and photography – only original works of art, everything affordably below £500 and all easily found on the High Street.

Art at 88 is born of an enthusiastic and motivated partnership, determined to make art accessible for all and passionate about sharing real artistic talent with those who may not know where else to find it.

They will be open all year round, Tuesday to Sunday and with a continually changing and exciting range of artists and art work, Art at 88 will boast a diversity of skill and style so far not represented in this area.

THE CULT OF BEAUTY: The Aesthetic Movement in Britain 1860 - 1900

St. Albans Art Society visit – Tuesday 17th May  2011 to The Victoria & Albert Museum. This exhibition traces the Aesthetic Movement’s evolution from the interests of a few Victorian artists and writers to a much more encompassing display of superb art and design works by many of the major names of the time. It explores the relationship between fine and design arts; the traditional high art of painting to fashionable trends in architecture, interior design, domestic furnishings, art photography and dress.
Entry time:  11.45 
There should also be time for you to look at some of the permanent displays according to your personal interests.

"PassionART" 2-15 May, The Hat Factory, Luton

Hannah Gormley is a member of a newly established Youth Forum, working with Luton Arts Council to help integrate and inspire the young people of Luton and surrounding areas (extending into Hertfordshire) to become involved with Art and Culture.  Their first project 'PassionART' is a competition for 15-25 year olds, to produce a piece in any medium about passion. One of the prizes will be  mentoring sessions with an artist.

For any 15-25 year olds who might wish to submit work the deadline is 26th April (submissions to be handed in to Luton Central Library or the Hat Factory).

"GRAFFITI" Call for Entries, Open Exhibition October 2011

The 90th Annual Open Exhibition will again be at the Menier Gallery, Southwark Street, London SE1 1RU Monday 3rd October to Saturday 15th October 2011.   
Theme : "GRAFFITI".
The Society of Graphic Fine Art invites entries for the 90th Annual Open Exhibition, to be held in London at the Menier Gallery from 3rd to 15th October 2011. Our exhibitions have in past years attracted eminent artists as guest openers such as Professor Ken Howard OBE, RA, Norman Ackroyd CBE, RA and Victor Ambrus ARCA, RE, FRSA.
The SGFA exists to promote fine drawing skills, whether with brush, pen, charcoal, conte or any other forms of original printmaking. Details of the Call for Entries are available on www.sgfa.org.uk .
Submission and initial selection is by photographs, and delivery arrangements exist for selected works from locations around the UK.
Closing date for application to the Open Exhibition is Saturday 20th August 2011. An election to membership takes place at the Open Exhibition in October. Full details and application forms can be found on the web site www.sgfa.org.uk

Starting at Molewood Lodge on the edge of Hertford, you will begin a leisurely two hour walk towards Waterford.  Supported by a local professional artist the group will stop at certain points to sketch a variety of inspirational views, from marshland and rivers to local wildlife.
You will then return to Molewood Lodge where you may browse their annual Arts Exhibition, displaying a variety of creativity from glass to ceramics and paintings from Hertfordshire based Artists.  There will also be cream teas and a range of delicious homemade cakes for sale raising money for charity.
The fee is £7.80 per person, and walks are being held on 5th / 9th & 11th June (1pm-3pm Walk Time).  The Exhibition and Charity Tea Room is open to 5pm.
