Kim Major-George Collagraph artist.
After graduating from Art & Design college in the 70 ‘s my career has spanned over 30 years from surface pattern designing for the gift industry, teaching Art and Design, to book illustrating in the 90s. Gallery work and private commission plus teaching collagraph as an artist in residence has been my work for the last 10 years.
My interests in spiritual iconography have led me on a journey far removed from my original training, and my journey into Collagraph and paper sculpture has been my main fascination for the last 5 years. Collagraph, primary a printing process is the first step. I then take many of the pieces a lot further by adding mixed media, iridescence threads, precious/ tarnished metals and soluble fibres creating unique pieces, many evoking ancient themes from antiquity.
My year is spent on supplying galleries, fulfilling private commissions, demonstrating collagraph at exhibitions, teaching workshops at art centres / schools and holding master classes at my studio in Lilley. This last year has been frantic with exhibitions around the country from London to the N.E.C.
My book on Collagraph titled ’Collagraph, a journey through texture’ was published in 2011. This full coloured technical book covers all aspects of textured relief hand-pulled printing - currently the best selling collagraph book on Amazon.
