My first love is sketching in a small sketchbook using a pen and watercolours, preferably outdoors drawing from nature. Trees in particular are a recurring subject in my work. At home I paint with acrylics on large paper often based on sketches I have made outside. I also paint in oils on canvas, sometimes working directly from the subject outdoors, or from sketches and memory.
My father always considered my sketches to be my best work and shortly before he died he begged me to ''do something with my sketch books'', but as I drew over the binding and painted on both sides of the paper, taking the sketches out of the books was not something I ever considered doing. However since discovering the process of fine art giclee printing I have had a number of sketches reproduced as prints, which I will be showing along with original paintings during Open Studios.
