Much of my work has been in public sculpture, which first arose through wanting to work in the open on a large scale and to engage people who are not necessarily interested in art. This led eventually to choosing materials such as steel and stainless steel, materials that are resistant to weather and human intervention and to working with engineers.
Reflective materials that use natural light figure largely in my sculpture, also kinetic sculpture driven by wind. I sometimes introduce natural sound (e.g.stones and rocks moving, water, wind ) and, where appropriate, the human voice and specially composed music.
I am interested in the material of our planet and the climate that affects it, and have worked with scientists in trying to interpret aspects of this in my work.
I experiment with light, film, photography, kinetics, suspension and sound, using many different materials, to produce work for exhibitions in the UK and abroad.
