In 2003, Dawn left a high profile corporate career to concentrate on overcoming Cancer. She used her latent artistic skills to totally change her life’s focus and direction, concentrating on becoming an inspiring contributor in the world of Mixed Media and 3D Art.
Dawn has created some very unusual artworks in metal, ceramics, stone and ‘breeze block’, and latterly also in 3D Glass and Mixed Media Canvases.
Dawn's clay and glass works are intricate and detailed, whereas her carvings and canvases are more symbolic and tactile. Her glass and canvases explode with colour.
Dawn uses natural, man-made and recycled materials as they are found, and more importantly given, such as stone, aerated ('breeze') block, cement, plaster, wood, wire, metals, clay, bottles, window glass, textiles, ribbons, cardboard, paper, broken items that can be reborn ….
Dawn’s inspiration comes from trying to capture emotions and feelings, usually in the female form, that also highlights societal changes in perceptions and expectations of us ‘Humans’. She uses perceptive insights of ‘knowing’ people that has been gained through an extensive career in customer facing roles, and updates this with ongoing observations to create a piece that draws the viewer in and speaks to them directly. Commission requests also greatly influence the outcome, as does the look and feel of the materials being used.
Dawn is an active member of various local art groups, including the Hertfordshire Visual Arts (HVA) Sculpture Group, Art Platform Collective and Hitchin Art Hub. She has regularly participated in the annual HVA Open Studios and provided demonstrations at various exhibitions and local events across the Home Counties.
Dawn has recently finished a 2 year Residency as Sculptor at Mardleybury Gallery near Knebworth Herts, where she exhibited her work and provided small group workshops in Basic Carving Techniques using breeze block as the initial learning medium. These courses now continue from her own studio and provides transferable skills that will stand students in good stead as they move onto their favourite medium with its own specialist tools. Dawn’s work currently resides in Australia, France, Holland, Spain, UK, and in 2018 South Korea....
