Having left a high profile corporate career of 20+ years due to illness, Dawn used her artistic talents to move forward into Mixed Media Sculpture. This created some inspiring works in metal, ceramics, stone and ‘breeze bloc’, which has since manifested itself in 3D Glass Art. Dawn's clay and glass works are intricate and detailed, whereas her carvings are more symbolic and tactile.
Dawn uses natural, man-made and recycled materials as they are found or more importantly given, such as stone, aerated ('breeze') block, cement, plaster, wood, wire, metals, clay, bottles, window glass….
Dawn’s inspiration comes from being able to capture emotions and feelings in a female form that highlights changes, perceptions and societal expectations. Often gained through personal experience as well as through observations, this is also influenced by commission requests and the look and feel of the materials being used. Dawn uses perceptive insights of ‘knowing’ people that has been gained through an extensive career in customer facing roles, as well as from her own transition from corporate professional to practising artist.
Dawn is an active member of the Art Platform Collective, and the Hertfordshire Visual Arts (HVA) Sculpture Group, regularly participating in the annual HVA Open Studios. Dawn also provides demonstrations at various exhibitions and local events across the Home Counties.
Dawn provides small group workshops in carving aerated block and stone, during the summer months. Please contact Dawn for dates.
Dawn’s work currently resides in Australia, France, Holland and the UK.
