Brenda gained a BA Hons. in woven textile design at Hornsey School of Art in 1975.
Throughout her life she has drawn inspiration from the natural world , from the colours and changing light of vast distant horizons to close observations of the colour, texture and form of plants and rocks. She has a deep emotional relationship with colour.
Her current paintings are abstract, revealing her inner world, evolving through the process of making. She prepares the ground with various materials including papers , cardboard ,sand , textile before adding layer after layer of acrylic washes to slowly build the image. Through her love of photography she pursues the abstract in nature. Her keen eye seeks to reveal mysterious, ambiguous images of rocks, plants and decaying structures, and images of land and sea reminiscent of her early woven textiles.
