Amy is a commission artist from Welwyn, Hertfordshire and graduated in 2005 with a BA honours in Fine Art from De Montfort University Leicester. Amy works full time in the world of Publishing and pursues a busy artist’s life in her spare time.
Working as a commission artist since 2002, her portfolio is varied and exciting. Amy loves the personal touch of working with a client who loves her painting ways. She is flexible and works with ideas to create something unique to brighten and finishing off a wall at home or is often asked to do paintings as a special gift.
Amy has developed her own unique signature style in vibrant abstract acrylic paintings and her playful compositions have been compared to one of her favourite artists, Kandinsky. She finds colour in everything. A slight hint of lilac in the dullest concrete turns to bright purple. She says “I want each colour to have its moment and guide your eye around the painting. Most of all, like Kandinsky, I want the colours I use to sing and bring joy to the viewer.”
She works by sketching a subject matter, then reducing to simple lines, shapes and extend areas to form movement and add decorative fun shapes. The paintings still look like the subject matter but you start to discover more each time you look. She explains, “Like finding pictures in the clouds, I think it’s good to keep your imagination working like we did as children.”
Amy was a graphic designer for many years which seemed to encourage her style with precision and graphic elements. Each year her paintings are evolving and developing, but her paintings are still recognisably hers.
Amy had her second solo art show ‘Hart Stag’ our beloved Hertfordshire emblem in 2017. Running for a successful three months at the Hertford Tourist information Centre, Hertford. This venue still sells her stag prints and cards, PLUS the council licensed four of her stag paintings as imagery to go on tourist gifts for the year; mugs, coasters, and cushion covers.
Original paintings, limited edition prints and cards are stocked locally at Niko Brown Gallery in Ware and Mardleybury Gallery in Datchworth. With new paintings created annually for Kimpton and Ayot St Lawrence Art Show and other pop up shows throughout the year. Not forgetting my annual Christmas Market Stall in Camden or last year at Brick Lane.
