CELEBRATING EVERYDAY THINGS
My digital drawings celebrate and document everyday items. They are limited edition prints cataloguing the careful crafting of the forms and the detailed finishes of ‘Everyday Things’ which sadly we either ignore or discard.
Whilst we may re-cycle the materials used to make many of these items we throw away or ignore the objects which demonstrate the ingenuity of their designers and the inventiveness of their manufacturers. Many of these mundane items are linked with social and environmental concerns that need careful consideration.
These representations are made by carefully observing the subject. There is no computer trickery or photographic technique involved. The software provides a set of drawing tools and like any printmaking process offers both possibilities and limitations.
This digital activity allows me to produce different types and sizes of output and I am currently making both PRINTS and CUTOUTS.
PRINTS are rectangular A4, A3, A2 and A1 images mounted on 3mm Dibond aluminium or 5mm plastic Foamex sheet supported by a 15 mm thick subframe which lifts them from the wall surface creating a ‘shadow frame’.
CUTOUTS are larger images printed directly onto PVC Foamex board. These are trimmed to the outline to produce ‘2D Sculptures’. These are also mounted via keyhole plate on the rear which keeps the image flush to the wall surface.
