WINNER OF THE STEVENAGE FESTIVAL OF ART 2011 ROY MUGRIDGE AWARD .... MARIA-LUISA WILKINGS

'Apache' by Maria-Luisa Wilkings

Pictured above (on right) is Maria-Luisa Wilkings, receiving the award for her sculpture ‘Apache’ at a Ceremony on 9 October 2011.

Coming from a background in graphic design, Maria-Luisa now specialises in her first love Sculpture. Her work in stoneware and earthenware is mostly of figurative pieces of the human head and form. Her technique involves minimal use of glazes, and she has recently been experimenting with the addition of textural items including feathers and beads.

She is a featured artist at The Copper Beech Gallery in Little Wymondley, and has shown work at Dennington Gallery (Old Stevenage), Palace Green Gallery (Hatfield) and Letchworth Arts Centre. Maria-Luisa participated for the first time in 2011 in Herts Open Studios at which ‘Apache’ attracted much attention.
