'Seaside 3'

Marshall Colman has invited fellow Herts Visual Arts Members to this event at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge.  To book, or for further information please contact Marshall direct.
 
The Fitzwilliam Museum, which has an important collection of ceramics, has offered the Craft Potters Association the opportunity to look at their reserve collection and to handle some of the pieces in it. The Fitzwilliam collection is wide-ranging, covering English slipware (including some splendid Toft plates), maiolica, Iznik, Persian lustre ware, European porcelain, British studio pottery and a lot more besides. The British studio pottery is not on display, so this visit will allow us to examine work that is not available to the public, including ceramics by Mick Casson, David Leach, Kate Malone, Martin Smith, Gordon Baldwin and others. Dr. Julia Poole, the retired keeper of applied arts, will explain the pieces to us.

A new contemporary art exhibition space has been created in the foyer of Watersmeet named 'Artistsmeet'.
 
Whilst there are a number of art societies in the local area, it felt beneficial for the area to have a quality exhibition space where established artists could exhibit their work providing the opportunity for local residents of all ages to see an array of excellent quality art work without having to travel into London.

The exhibition space is currently home to what is believed to be the smallest art gallery in the world. The metre squared gallery space with white walls and an oak floor has been created inside what was once a portable toilet cubicle.  Bog Standard Gallery exhibits photographs from a series of toilet signs from around the world and has received over 50,000 visitors.

The Inaugural Open Exhibition 2011 will launch on Wednesday 2nd November for invited press and guests.  The gallery opens its doors to the public on Thursday 3rd November at 9am and will showcase a range of artworks from Artists living locally that do not frequently exhibit on their doorstep as their work has taken them further afield.
