Barnet General Hospital - June Faulkner & the Kings Fund
June Faulkner - glass etching, Barnet General Hospital
HVA member June Faulkner completed a project to create images and hangings for Barnet General Hospital. The project, led by the Kings Fund with the Department of Health, aimed to enhance the healing environment end of life programme.
She says:
A new garden room has been created - a tranquil space with doors opening out on to a courtyard garden for the use of patients, relatives and friends. Refreshments, computer and telephone access have been provided.
June had initial input regarding a green roof on the new building, which can be seen from stairwell and lift areas on upper floors and sun pipes to provide internal natural light.
Workshops were held early on to explore designs and ideas. She has created a signature image, a design for the etched glass doors, made hangings for the windows and provided photographic images for lightboxes in the room and for other areas in the hospital. This will be an ongoing project, with changes of the images throughout the seasons.
This new space was officially opened by Earl Howe on Monday 11th October. It has been a very stimulating and rewarding project.
