'LOST IN REVERIE', Palace Green Gallery 19 February - 4 March 2012
Featuring work by Kim Major-George and Julie Maginn, the exhibition explores both artists’ unique and varied exploration of texture to convey their dream-like concepts. As well as featuring in the exhibition, both artists will be present on the opening and closing days to meet and talk to visitors.
| The installed works demonstrate both traditional and modern methodology in art practice. Major-George raises the established form of printmaking to new and innovative heights, whereas Maginn allows the layers of texture and paint to expose the intense sense of drama caught in her pieces. Through hand embellishing threads and foils, melting plastic, layering up, peeling back and burnishing into her printing prints Kim Major-George creates fascinating collagraph prints. Julie Maginn paints translucent glazes on beautiful papers, which are layered with texture and depth. Allowing immense depth and clarity to surface in her work, Maginn’s quizzical faces push through to connect with the viewer and gain emotional response, to mirror the sensation of when two sets of eyes meet across a crowded room. Elements of fantasy and a powerful sense of drama are the main focus of Julie Maginn’s latest work and has been a constant throughout Kim Major-George’s practice. Her interest in poetry and philosophy, together with her studies of esoteric material, myths and Ancient civilizations, have fed the continuing thread that travels through Major-George’s work. |
