Funding for the Regeneration of Seaside Resorts (England)
The Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) has announced that it is now accepting application under the second round of its "Sea Change" Open Application Grants Programme.
Sea Change is a £45 million capital grants projects that will which aims to regenerate deprived sea side towns. Through open programme grants of between £200,000 and £1,000,000 will be awarded to Local Authorities to fund innovative and inspirational cultural projects. These can include cultural projects which will contribute to local place-making; arts projects which provide new opportunities for local communities and visitors; improving the quality and the experience of the historic environment; and natural and built environment and public space projects. Feasibility grants are also available for projects that are at an earlier stage in their development with a view to developing a full application for a later round. To date over £4.5 million has been awarded to 12 English sea sides through the Sea Change Open Programme. These include a £480,800 grant for Littlehampton in Sussex which will go towards building the longest seafront bench in the world and Boscombe in Bournemouth, Dorset, which will use its £455,000 to refurbish the 1950's terrace near its Victorian pier. In addition to the open programme, CABE will also provide grants of up to £4 million through a proactive commissioning process.
