Hertfordshire Visual Arts Forum Presents MY ART IS REAL ART
My art is real art - Alex Buhagiar
Hertfordshire Visual Arts Forum Presents MY ART IS REAL ART:
An interactive and thought-provoking talk by Artist Alex Buhagiar.
Hertfordshire, UK, 1 July 2009 – Art comes in all shapes and sizes, forms and genres but how do we place a value on it? That is one of the questions to be posed by Artist Alex Buhagiar who will address members and guests of the county-wide arts organisation at its 2009 third quarterly meeting later this month.
Speaking at the event to be held at the University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, on the evening of Tues 21st July, Alex will attempt to draw the audience into an interactive discussion.
Elaborating on her theme, Alex explains: “The title for the evening, ‘My art is real art’ is said tongue in cheek. However, I want to draw attention to the snobberies and elitism in visual art as well as the very real differences in media and methods used. Deep down, do we judge our own work and that of others on the basis of showing or not showing, selling or not selling? What other values do we employ? I would also like to consider the ways in which ‘jobbing’ artists maintain a sense of value.”
Alex’s own artwork centres on the realms of performance, participation and collaboration. She will illustrate her presentation with pictures and short films to show how her work has developed and her current interests.
The meeting will take place in Room A161 in the Lindop Building at the University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, starting at 7.30pm. All are welcome; members are admitted free of charge and non-members are asked to pay a small fee of £3 on the door.
And don’t forget the highlight of the calendar year for HVAF is our Open Studios event which will take place across the county starting on 12th September and running until 4th October.
