Kathy Foster is exhibiting her recent work in 'Spaces in Time' at the Artshed Arts Centre, Westmill Farm, near Ware, from 4th July until 10th August.
Kathy seeks out worn and weathered objects that mirror our own ageing process, and these offer a myriad of possibilities for creating images.
Kathy produces figurative and semi-abstract oil paintings based on familiar everyday objects such as old shoes, books, chairs, fences and plastic bags and bottles. She aims to capture a moment in time of even the most humble of objects and give a sense of the 'space' it occupies for its lifetime. An ongoing series is inspired by the appearance of old books spines, reflecting their 'history' and presenting her own perception of their identities.

This was the title for the HVAF April Quarterly Meeting chosen by the Textile Group that ran it. The evening began with a professional photographic presentation by Catherina Petit van Hoey, Anna Griffiths and June Faulkner. Between them they described the formation of the group, its diverse membership, some of the joint projects completed and the exhibitions undertaken. Following this there was a refreshment break for viewing much of the original work which had been brought to the meeting and displayed there.
To end the evening everyone divided into four mixed art form groups to discuss how diverse artists can best present their work in joint exhibitions. One group focused on their various personal motives for exhibiting. Another discussed the value of “What is Art” as an exhibition title. A third group came up with a group name of “Rich Mix” with their preferred title as the one word “Diversity” rather than a question. The final group contributing to the evening had let their imaginations fly to a Circle Line tube train as an exhibiting venue in an effort to take art to non-artists!
Catherina mentioned during her talk the value of members making as much use as they could of interchange between the many art forms represented in HVAF. Our quarterly meetings are a regular way of celebrating this diversity.
HVAF member Vanessa Stone will be exhibting her new show at Hitchin Museum and Art Gallery from Friday 9th May. The gallery is open 10am-5pm and is closed on Wednesdays and Sundays.
