Teresa Newham
I grew up in North West London, drawing on any surface I could find, illustrating my own short stories, dabbling in oils. As a teenager I forsook Art in pursuit of a ‘proper job’ and still work full time for the magazine publishers I joined after leaving college. I have lived in Harpenden for over twenty years.
Since 1999 I have been a regular visitor to the Iveragh Peninsula, County Kerry, Ireland, where the local history and beautiful countryside kindled my interest in photography. They also proved a source of inspiration when in 2006 I took up painting again, this time using watercolour. Largely self taught, I have attended several short courses at Central St Martins - such as Life Drawing - to widen my range and enhance my skills. I have recently started experimenting with printmaking - mainly linocuts and monoprints. These are small-scale works produced by hand.
