Sarah Evans

I enjoy the immediacy, freedom and physicality of working with paint, whilst I find glass a dramatically beautiful and intriguing medium.

The rhythm, harmony and balance found in nature are fundamental to me and are qualities I reflect in my work. I am inspired by the freedom, poetry and drama of the landscape; particularly to where land and water meet. It is here, at these margins that modulations in light and atmosphere are amplified; the rhythm of the seasons is reflected, the passage of time accentuated, the cycle of life marked.

Important to me is a synthesis of and sensitivity to colour, surface and quality of mark and throughout is the continual search for greater simplicity. Capturing atmosphere and mood of a time and place is more important to me than pinning down specific landmarks themselves. Working at an intuitive level, with an instinctive emotional response to the subject, I let the work develop and evolve with freedom of expression.
