June 2018

I almost can’t believe that we’re halfway through the year, already with 4 successful events under our belt and more still to come. A huge thank-you to everyone who has been part of our amazing Big Art Showcase at the New Maynard Gallery: if you have work there, please check your in-boxes for the pick-up reminder email.
As always, please give a round of applause to the volunteers who make our events possible, including the most recent smaller Showcases at Living Crafts and the Herts Show.  They were excellent opportunities to network, meet other artists and connect to potential buyers.   My personal takeaway from Living Crafts was the potential in soluble wax crayons – I can’t wait to experiment with all that colour. At the Herts Show I was delighted by the number of people who already knew about the Big Art Fair and Open Studios, and were planning to visit both.
Next up in our busy calender is our AGM and After-Party, quickly followed by our Big Art Fair in Hitchin and of course Open Studios in September. As always, I look forward to meeting you individually at one of our events.

Deadline -  8th June

Nationally, Open Studios is now recognised as an important event in the art calendar. Now in its 28th year Herts Open Studios is one of the most established OS events in the country.

Open Studios is publicised widely in local and national media, and in arts venues across the county. An advertisement in a professionally produced brochure with a minimum print run of 15,000 A known, special interest circulation.

Now that the GDPR deadline is behind us, I expect our inboxes are all breathing a small sigh of relief.  A big change in emphasis (compared to before) is the focus on individuals as the owner of their data. In reviewing our membership and policies, we found that there was not much for HVA to do in the very short term, however, we have made some small changes to published privacy policies (on our website), and will be continuing to review our data, policies, and procedures.
As practicing artists and small business owners you may also have reviewed your own data and privacy policies in recent months.  GDPR applies to all of us, so we recommend you take a look at and make sure you are up to date.
There is a huge amount of information about GDPR, but a starting point might be here:
