July 2018

Did you notice that this month’s newsletter is slightly later than usual? We have a bumper edition for you … Our earlier Showcase events and AGM are over for the year and it’s full steam ahead for the Big Art Fair and also Open Studios.

Our Big Art Showcase at the New Maynard Gallery was very well received and there were a lot more sales than last year – we’re already invited back, so that’s something to look forward to in 2019. At Living Crafts, the Showcase was a great opportunity for a number of our members to demonstrate their work over the 4 days and also meet other members.

Living Crafts was the first outing for the new HVA banners and sail flags that will also be making an appearance at the Big Art Fair.

We had a lovely weekend at the Herts Show. Several members volunteered to come along and help on our stand (and enjoy other parts of the Herts Show in their breaks) plus a few members were also there in their own right.

I still seem to be Chair after our AGM, so thank-you for that. This year, my focus is in making more connections between our members, and getting even more people involved in our lovely community.

And all the while, in parallel, a huge effort has been going on behind the scenes producing the Open Studios brochure, working out new Open Studios pavement branding and preparing for the Big Art Fair in Hitchin – have I mentioned that yet? Are you coming along to visit?

Big Art Fair

Preparations are well underway for our popular Big Art Fair in Hitchin 14th-15th July 2018

Private View 13th July.

We look forwar

d to seeing many of you over the weekend! Come and have a look at the 2018 Open Studios brochure hot off the press too!

Here's a link to the event on Facebook, please do share. There’s more information about the Big Art Fair on our website, and don't forget we are tweeting away using #bigartfair too.

A huge thank-you to our sponsors who play such a big part. Each one chooses a Sponsor’s Favourite Award, so look out for those certificates.

Sponsors: Art Van Go, HertsHour, Broadway Gallery, Dragonfly Digital, Norgans, SM2Communicate.

New for 2018: A ’Visitors Vote’ certificate will go to the exhibitor with the most votes, so Visitors, be sure to have your say. By popular request, this catalogue also means you can find out more about our art, artists and sponsors.

How did it start? After our 2017 Conference, a dedicated team of volunteers successfully delivered our 2017 fair and are back to bring you Big Art Fair 2018.

"After last year’s amazing event, North Herts seemed ideal to again showcase the variety of skills and creativity in our membership” explains Sally Taylor, textile artist and illustrator, "This new venue is well matched to our expanded Art Fair, again taking advantage of the Hitchin Festival which attracts so many visitors."

With marketing by Laura Dunmow, representational artist, display screens managed by visual artist Sandy Andrews and sign-ups managed by glass artist Sharon Korek, the Fair is ready to recreate last year’s atmosphere and excitement.

The buzz from last year’s Fair prompted even more members to join in this year, supported by a talented and committed group of volunteers who create/repeat events like this. Thank-you to our volunteers and the artists taking part.

Open Studios

Open Studios is just around the corner, with more artists and venues than last year. If you are taking part, please look out for separate OS emails that will be finding their way to you over the next months.

This year we have an 8-page mini-guide and a full brochure to be launched at the Big Art Fair Private View on Friday evening, plus A6 leaflets and free on-line marketing materials.

We are also extending pavement branding with optional street banners and signage at a very reasonable price. Please order by Friday 13th July - don't miss out! We have emailed all Open Studios participants, the order form and all of the information you need is also available via the link above.

Whether or not you are taking part, please take some time to read and study the brochure. In particular, take time to visit as many studios as you can – you’ll be making new friends and each visit will be worthwhile.
