Season’s Greetings and best wishes for the New Year 2018.
Welcome to our year-end newsletter with a mini-round up of 2017 and a sneak peak of some of the amazing things lined up so far for 2018. It’s been a privilege to be Chair since our summer AGM and over the last 12 months I’ve met many of our members who have so generously shared their time and ideas with me. If you’d like to chat, either email me on email@example.com and/or come along to one of our events/meet-ups in 2018.
Collaboration, supporting members on their individual journeys and sharing even more growth opportunities all underpin an exciting year ahead for HVAF members. Our theme for 2018 is growth, starting with our January Members Conference. There’s more information and an RSVP button later in the newsletter.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank-you to the many volunteers who have worked tirelessly to deliver all the fun and success we had in 2017. Please join me in saying thank-you; we wouldn’t be here without all the time and hard work they put into our activities.
In addition to numerous other meet-ups,
the big rocks of 2017 were:
January 2017 Members Meeting: Our amazing members meeting started 2017 with a bang, bringing over 40 members, their ideas and skills together on the theme of Moving Forward. It proved a catalyst for so many good things, including our summer art fair in Hitchin and changes to Open Studios, branding and communications.
New Maynard Gallery (NMG) Spring Exhibition: Around 50 members took advantage of this free opportunity to exhibit their work. The NMG Trustees were delighted by the range and quality onshow - awonderful wide selection of 2D and 3D work that resulted in some sales too. We’ve now been offered an annual Spring Exhibition slot.
Living Crafts Hatfield: We enjoyed 4 days with a great selection of art forms on show.
Herts Show: We promoted HVAF with a space in the Made in Herts Marquee
July Art Fair (Hitchin) 28th-30th July 2017: From an idea at our January meeting, this new event was busy from the Friday PV until after closing time on the Sunday. In total there were almost £7,500 in sales for our participating artists and we’ve had such good feedback that we’re already planning another one.
Open Studios 9th September – 1st October 2017: Individual artist fees were reduced alongside a significant change in group pricing, resulting in more artists taking part than 2016. Following on from our January members meeting we also introduced a new-format brochure, increased advertising, shared branding elements and broader social media publicity. Feedback from our surveys is very positive, we have ideas for further improvements in 2018 and always welcome more feedback and suggestions.
