'Urban: Life in Watford', 8 Jan - 21 Feb 2015

Since August, a group of young people aged 13 to 19, have been putting together a show for the Space2 gallery at Watford Museum for January 2015. This group is called the ‘Young Curators’, a new aspect to the museum programme, which aims to get young people engaged with their local museum and gain work experience in a creative setting.

The Young Curators chosen theme is ‘Urban: Life in Watford’, which includes carefully selected items from the Museum’s collection in order to present their views and ideas about what it is like to live in urban Watford. Artworks on display include market street scenes painted by Gordon Hales and striking black and white photography of the old gasworks by Dave Parker. Themes explored include, industry, architecture and lifestyle in Watford.

As well as curating the exhibition, the Young Curators have also organised a private view and a graffiti workshop, which will take place in February. The private view will include talks by the Young Curators about their experience of creating the show and why they chose specific artworks.
